Herpes zoster (HZ) is a painful and potentially serious condition that can result in a significant burden of illness, mostly related to postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). This complication occurs in about 20% of adults with HZ and often has a major impact on quality of life.*
* ZOSTAVAX® II is not indicated to treat pain and complications associated with HZ.
The incidence and severity of HZ and its complications increase with age. Up to 10% of people over 65 years of age will be admitted to hospital with an episode of HZ.
The HZ vaccine is recommended for persons aged 60 years of age and older, and may also be used in adults 50 years of age or older.
